Moving Interest Centers Outdoors: Boosting Outdoor Play- MANDATORY FOR ALL LEAD TEACHERS, COORDINATORS, & CURRICULUM SPECIALISTS

When: 01/24/2015 9:00 am-12:00 pm
Where: Ebenezer's Downtown Center, 340 W. St. Paul Avenue in Milwaukee
Presented by: Dana Brumm, Leslie Hundt and Mona Perales

Do you spend your outside time reinforcing the rules against fighting, sliding head first down the slide or not throwing sand?  Why do we think outside time is a “recess” from learning and just a time to exert extra pent up energy to return to valuable learning time inside?  This is valuable time to create an extension of your classroom!  Indeed, a playground does give children the freedom for physical activity, but it should also be used as a natural learning area. In this training you will use your imagination to create a variety of outdoor learning activities that will be mutually beneficial through the reduction of discipline problems and offering an exciting tool for learning.  Happy occupied children who are challenged by the equipment and activities will not seek unsafe alternatives.
