Ebenezer Child Care Centers is so excited to be welcoming two great new professionals to our team! Sister Michelle Marie has been named our new Center Coordinator for our Southside Milwaukee Daycare facility and Gabriela Barbosa has been named our new Executive Assistant.
Sister holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education Loyola University in Chicago, an Associate Arts degree from Felician College in Chicago and Early Child Care Administrative Credentials. Prior to being named Center Coordinator for the Southside Milwaukee Child Care Center, Sister was serving as Assistant Coordinator at Ebenezer’s Downtown Milwaukee Daycare Center. She was also a lead school-age teacher for Ebenezer. Before joining Ebenezer’s team, she served as the Learning Resource Center Director and in administration for the Child Development Center of St. Joseph in Milwaukee from 2007-2009; as a Job Coach for handicapped young adults in Detroit from 1993-2007; and as a Catholic School teacher in Chicago from 1985-1993. Sister is part of the Felician Sisters, who have missions in Mexico, Brazil, Poland, Canada, Kenya, Russia, Ukraine, Haiti, Estonia, and the United States. She is also the Co-Chairperson of the Felician Sisters Vision Committee, and a member of the Wisconsin Early Childhood Association (WECA). In her spare time she enjoys singing and playing the guitar.
Gabriela holds a Master of Arts degree in International Human Rights with concentrations in Latin America and International Law & Administration from the University of Denver, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminology and Law Studies with a minor in Spanish from Marquette University. Prior to joining Ebenezer, Gabriela worked as a Bilingual Research Assistant for the University of Colorado in Denver where she provided bilingual research assistance in Spanish and English including coding, translating materials, preparing data for analysis, and editing of various research materials. Additionally; she worked with Head
Start programs and preschools in order to perform nutritional testing on children pertaining to cognitive development, motor-skill development, and child-eating preferences in rural Colorado towns. Her previous experience with non-profit organizations includes participating in strategic planning, consulting, advocacy, outreach, event planning, setting agendas, and various marketing initiatives for diverse organizations and communities. Prior to pursuing a graduate degree, Gabriela also worked for several years as a Legal Assistant for Foley & Lardner LLP in the General Litigation and Labor and Employment Departments.
Gabriela has a strong interest in working with diverse and underrepresented communities, in addition to other humanitarian or eco-friendly organizations. She currently volunteers with Kompost Kids, a Milwaukee area organization that seeks to educate the public, individuals, business and institutions about the benefits of compost and to reclaim organic materials from landfills to create soil for community-based agriculture projects. Gabriela is also a writer for Inity Weekly, an online publication that promotes reggae, world music, social consciousness and awareness of global humanitarian issues.
