Did you know that Ebenezer Child Care Centers has Virtues Program? The program is aimed at teaching children enrolled in our centers about compassion, respect, and honesty as well as how to be courteous and orderly.
According to Beverly Anderson, executive director for Ebenezer Child Care Centers, “Our program, which is called Virtues from the Heart, is a unique virtues- and character-building curriculum that we incorporate into our daily lesson plans and interactions with our children.”
“It is based on five simple strategies that guide us daily. Speaking the language of virtues, recognizing teachable moments, establishing personal boundaries, honoring the beauty of life, and getting straight to the heart.”
Each month, Ebenezer selects two virtues to highlight. This month our virtues are courage and determination.
Determination is focusing your energy and efforts on a task and sticking with it until it is finished. It is using your will power to do something when it isn’t easy. You are determined to meet your goals even when it is hard or you are being tested. With determination, we make our dreams come true.
Courage is bravery in the face of fear. You do the right thing, even though it is hard or scary. When you are courageous, you don’t give up. You try new things. You admit mistakes. Courage is the strength in your heart.
Throughout the month, our teachers will be working what it means to have determination and courage into their conversations with children and their curriculum. They will also be selecting activities that highlight these virtues.
We’d like to recommend that you also discuss these virtues at home with your children. For more information on the Virtues Project, please visit www.virtuesproject.com.
